Delhi Police arrest mastermind of S Delhi doctor murder

5 Sep 2025: New Delhi – Delhi Police have caught two more people involved in the murder of 63-year-old doctor Yogesh Chander Paul at his Jangpura Extension home last May. The police arrested the main planner of the crime and another suspect near Dudhwa National Park in Uttar Pradesh, close to the India-Nepal border, after chasing them for 3,000 kilometers.

The two men arrested this week were on the run since the murder happened. Police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for catching one of them, 30-year-old Pankaj Narjari from Assam. The other man is 42-year-old Prem Bahadur, also known as Devraj, a citizen of Nepal who planned the whole crime.

How the Crime Happened

Doctor Paul’s body was found in his kitchen on May 10, 2024. His house was completely messed up by the robbers. His wife was at work in a government hospital when the murder took place.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Indora explained how the gang worked. They would send Nepalese women to work as house helpers in homes. These women would then collect information about money, jewelry, and family members. The gang mainly targeted old people living alone.

“The mastermind of the crime, Bahadur, remained unidentified as he had concealed his identity even from the co-accused,” said DCP Indora.

Police revealed that most gang members are from Nepal. They have been robbing houses in different states like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi. After committing crimes, they usually escape to Nepal to hide.

In Doctor Paul’s case, a woman named Basanti worked as a house helper in his home. She gave important information to the gang that helped them plan the robbery and murder. Basanti was among four people arrested earlier, along with Himanshu, Akash, and Vishnu Swaroop.

Police are still searching for a couple named Bheem and his wife Varsha, who are also involved in the case.
