River Level Forecast and Impact
The Central Water Commission says the river will keep going down. They think it will reach 204.95 metres by Tuesday morning. People in low areas like Yamuna Bazar are cleaning up mud left by the water. The river went above the danger mark last Tuesday. This made many people leave their homes in Delhi and nearby areas. The Yamuna has only gone above 207 metres four times in the last 63 years. In July 2023, it reached a very high level of 208.66 metres.
City Takes Action Against Diseases
As the water goes down, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is working hard to stop mosquito diseases. They are spraying medicine in areas that were flooded. Workers are not getting Sunday off so they can work all the time. The worst affected areas are Civil Lines, Central, Narela, Najafgarh, Shahdara North and Shahdara South. About 19,000 people had to leave these areas. In the last week, there have been 29 malaria cases, 58 dengue cases, and 5 chikungunya cases. But officials say things are under control.
