A solo exhibition of late artist Pratap Deb's work will open soon in New Delhi. The show, titled Unveiled: Pratap Deb. The Artist. His Art. His Journey, will display over 40 original pieces for the first time.
Artist's Life and Work
Pratap Deb was an artist for seven decades. He studied at Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta in 1956. Deb worked as a graphic designer and government employee. He made bold paintings but was not well-known. His son Shubhendu Deb said famous artists like Ganesh Haloi and Sakti Burman were his classmates. Deb's wife Valarie said he loved painting at Lalit Kala Akademi's Garhi studio. After he died in 2021, they found many paintings in his studio.
Exhibition Details
The show will have oil paintings, acrylic works, drawings and mixed media art. Artist Oroon Das is organizing the exhibition. He said Deb's art ranges from European-style oil portraits to cubist works. Das called Deb a rasik, someone who sees poetry in life. The paintings Blossomed and Three Graces show how Deb changed his style. Das said Deb's art helps us understand modern Indian art and ourselves.
Pratap Deb's legacy belongs to the stream of consciousness we inherit as the trait of modernism; to understand the art of this land and to know ourselves in this world
The exhibition Unveiled: Pratap Deb. His Journey will be held at Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road. Follow The Rising News for more verified updates.
