5 Sep 2025: New Delhi/strong> – A part of the Singhola flyover on National Highway 44 near Alipur in outer Delhi collapsed on Thursday morning, causing major traffic problems for people traveling to Haryana. The cave-in happened on the road going towards Sonepat, Panipat and Karnal through the Delhi-Haryana border.
Delhi Traffic Police quickly moved vehicles to other routes to avoid the damaged area. They also posted warnings on social media to help drivers find new ways to reach their destination.
Alternative Routes for Commuters
Traffic police told drivers to take a different path to reach Haryana cities. Vehicles going to Sonepat, Panipat or Karnal should now take NH-44 from Mukarba Chowk to UER-II, then go to DSIIDC Bawana Sector-4 cut. From there, they need to turn right onto NH-344M towards Jhinjholi border to enter Sonepat.
The National Highways Authority of India explained what caused the problem. NHAI said a water pipeline owned by Delhi Jal Board was leaking at that spot. The leaked water spread into the road’s foundation and approaches, making the flyover weak and causing it to cave in.
Quick Action Taken
Delhi Jal Board immediately shut down the water pipeline after the incident. NHAI quickly started repair work on the damaged flyover section. The highway authority said they are working to fix the road while making sure travelers face minimum trouble.
“NHAI would like to inform that the settlement happened because of leakage from Delhi Jal Board water pipeline crossing the said section of NH-44, due to which water spread into the approaches and foundation,” NHAI officials stated in bold and italic.
The repair work is ongoing, and authorities have not announced when the flyover will reopen for traffic. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes until further notice.
