The Ghazipur paper market in Delhi, planned 20 years ago, is now a failed project. It was meant to be a big wholesale market, but today it is full of dirty water, garbage, and empty shops.
Big plans, poor results
In the early 2000s, the Delhi Development Authority gave 631 shops to paper traders from Chawri Bazar. They wanted traders to move from Old Delhi to this new place. The new market was supposed to have wide roads and be close to important places. But traders did not want to move. They liked their old shops in Chawri Bazar. The new shops were also too small for paper business. The market is next to a big garbage dump, which smells bad.
Current problems and future hopes
Now, the market has many problems. The roads are broken. There is no proper water or power. Garbage is everywhere. Some shops are used for other businesses. Some are locked. The place is not safe at night. Traders want the government to allow all types of businesses here, not just paper. They think this can make the market better. The government is now thinking of new plans for wholesale markets in Delhi. But they need to learn from the mistakes made at Ghazipur.
It was futile to think that the Chawri Bazar traders will shift here after so many years.
The government needs to rethink its plan for the Ghazipur market to make it useful. Follow The Rising News for more verified updates.
