Reason for flooding
The flooding happened because a lot of water came from the Hathnikund barrage. This barrage is on the border of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Last Monday, it released over 300,000 cusecs of water per hour. This was the highest this year. But on Sunday evening, it was only releasing 44,296 cusecs. The water came because of heavy rain in the Himalayas and north-west India.
