Punjab Schools Colleges Closed Till September 7 Due to Severe Floods

Chandigarh, September 2, 2025 – Punjab government has ordered all schools, colleges, universities and polytechnics to stay closed until September 7, 2025 due to dangerous flood conditions across the state. Education Minister Harjot Bains announced this decision on social media following Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directions.

Extended Closure for Student Safety

The closure affects all government, government-aided, recognized private schools, colleges, universities and polytechnic institutes statewide. This extends the earlier closure order that was set to end on September 3.

Worst Floods in 40 Years Hit Punjab

Punjab is facing its most severe flooding in nearly four decades. The disaster has claimed 29 lives across 12 worst-affected districts from August 1 to September 1, 2025.

Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir hills caused rivers and streams to overflow dangerously.

The Punjab government data shows flood-related deaths in multiple districts:

  • Pathankot: 6 deaths due to swollen Ravi river
  • Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Mansa, Rupnagar, Barnala: 3 deaths each

CA Exams Also Postponed

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has postponed CA September 2025 Final and Intermediate examinations in Punjab. These exams were scheduled for September 3 and 4, 2025.

“As directed by Hon’ble CM Punjab, in view of the flood situation, all educational institutions across Punjab will remain closed till 7th September 2025,” stated Education Minister Harjot Bains.
