NIRF Ranking 2025 Release Date Announced by Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education has announced that NIRF Ranking 2025 will be released on September 4, 2025. The National Institutional Ranking Framework will rank top colleges and universities across India in different categories.
Students and parents can check the complete list of top institutes on the official NIRF website at nirfindia.org after the release date.
What is NIRF Ranking 2025
NIRF Ranking 2025 will be the tenth edition of this yearly ranking system. The ministry ranks educational institutes across India based on important factors like teaching quality, research work, and student facilities.
This year, the government has added a new category called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDGs are 17 global goals that aim to create a better and more sustainable future for everyone.
Categories in NIRF Ranking 2025
The NIRF rankings cover 12 different categories including:
- Overall ranking
- Engineering colleges
- Medical colleges
- Universities
- Agriculture and Allied Sectors
- And 7 other important categories
The Agriculture category and two other categories were added last year to make the ranking more complete.
Previous Year Results
In 2024, the NIRF rankings were announced on August 12 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the rankings.
IIT Madras topped the overall category, followed by IISc Bengaluru in second place and IIT Bombay in third place.
In the engineering category, IIT Madras again came first, with IIT Delhi second and IIT Bombay third.
For medical colleges, AIIMS Delhi ranked first, PGIMER Chandigarh came second, and Christian Medical College Vellore was third.
Important Changes This Year
The ministry has announced that higher education institutes will face penalties for retracted research papers. This step aims to improve the quality of research work in Indian colleges and universities.
