4 Sep 2025: New Delhi, January 4, 2025 – AIIMS Delhi has won the first place among medical colleges in India once again. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) announced the results on Thursday, September 4, 2025, showing AIIMS Delhi at the top of all medical schools in the country.
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh came second. Christian Medical College in Vellore got third place. Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research in Puducherry stood fourth. Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow took the fifth spot.
Top Five Medical Colleges in India
The NIRF Rankings look at many things to decide which colleges are best. They check teaching quality, research work, and how well students do after finishing their studies. AIIMS Delhi has been number one for many years now because it does well in all these areas.
In other categories, IIT Madras got first place in the overall rankings. The Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru came second. IIT Bombay stood third. For management studies, IIM Ahmedabad kept its top position. IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode came second and third, just like last year.
New Rankings Added This Year
The government has ranked colleges in 17 different categories this year. These include engineering, pharmacy, dental, law, and agriculture. A new category called SDG ranking has started from this year. SDG stands for Sustainable Development Goals.
“These rankings help students and parents choose the right college for higher education,” said an education ministry official.
The NIRF Rankings are done every year by the Ministry of Education. They help students know which colleges are doing good work in teaching and research. Parents and students use these rankings when they decide where to study.
Students planning to join medical colleges next year should look at these rankings carefully. The admission process for most top medical colleges will start in the coming months.
