4 Sep 2025: New Delhi – The Ministry of Education announced the NIRF Rankings 2025 on Thursday, showing IIT Madras as India’s best engineering college for another year. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the tenth edition of these important rankings at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
IIT Madras kept its number one position among engineering colleges in the country. IIT Delhi came second in the engineering category. The rankings help students and parents choose the best colleges for higher education.
Top Universities Named in Different Categories
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore won the top spot as India’s best university. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi kept its second position from last year. Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Manipal came third in the university rankings.
The rankings covered 17 different categories this year. The ministry added new categories including sustainable development goals rankings. They also included Open University, Skill University and State Private University rankings which started last year.
Medical Colleges Get Their Rankings
AIIMS New Delhi became the best medical college in India according to the new rankings. The famous medical institute beat other top colleges to win the first position. JNU New Delhi got the second spot in medical education. Manipal Academy of Higher Education came third in the medical category too.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said these rankings help improve quality in Indian education and guide students to make better choices.
