Shimla Schools Closed After Fake News Creates Confusion Among Parents
Shimla, December 19, 2024
Shimla schools will remain closed on Wednesday after heavy rains and landslide warnings hit the hill station. The closure order came after a fake notification spread on social media, creating confusion among parents and students.
Heavy Rains Force School Closure
Educational institutions in Shimla district have been shut since Monday due to bad weather conditions. The area has been getting continuous rainfall for several days.
The heavy rains have caused landslides and trees to fall down. Many roads are also blocked because of this. The weather department says more heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours.
Fake News Spreads Confusion
On Tuesday evening, a fake notification went viral on the internet. The fake message claimed that the Shimla Deputy Commissioner had ordered schools to close on Wednesday.
The fake order used content from old notifications issued by the government earlier. This created confusion among parents and students, especially since exams are going on in many schools.
Police Complaint Filed
The Additional District Magistrate of Shimla has filed a complaint with the police about the fake notification. Officials have demanded immediate action against those who spread the false information.
“The fake notification created confusion among parents and students in Shimla as examinations are going on in various schools,” said local officials.
Real Order Issued Later
After the fake news spread, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap issued a real order. The official order closed all government and private schools, coaching centers, and nursing institutes for Wednesday.
The Geological Survey of India has warned about possible landslides at several places across the district. This made the school closure necessary for student safety.
Teachers and office staff do not need to come to schools. Online classes will be held instead.
Students and parents should wait for official announcements from school authorities before making any decisions.
