About 200 people who passed the Teacher Eligibility Test in 2022 protested at the West Bengal Assembly on Thursday. They want jobs as teachers in primary and upper primary schools across the state.
Protesters Clash with Police
The group marched from Dorina Crossing in Esplanade to the Assembly. They fought with police who tried to stop them near the gate. The protesters sat down in front of the Assembly. Candidates Demand Jobs After Long Wait
The protesters say they have been waiting for three years to get teaching jobs. They claim there are many empty teacher posts in schools. Soumya Burman, one of the protesters, said the government is giving work to part-time and para teachers instead of hiring them. The police used little force to move the protesters because the area is off-limits. They caught about 50 people.
We have been waiting for three years, but the government is yet to recruit us for vacant posts of teachers in hundreds of primary-upper primary schools.
