A 12th grade student from New Delhi has created HydroSan, a device that turns toilet flushes into electricity. The invention aims to bring power to remote areas in India that often face blackouts.

How HydroSan Works

HydroSan uses a small turbine in the flush tank to make electricity when someone flushes. It also has a pipe that lets water trickle through the turbine all the time. This keeps making power even when no one is using the toilet. The electricity is stored in batteries to use later. Right now, 20 flushes can charge a small power bank. This can run LED lights and charge phones.

Benefits and Future Plans

HydroSan is cheap and easy to set up in toilets that are already there. It can work in homes, schools, and public toilets. The device won an award for being good for the environment. It is now being tested in a village in Tehri. The student hopes HydroSan will bring power to places that dont have it, like far-off villages and army posts. He wants to make the device work even better in the future. The View From India Looking at World Affairs from the Indian perspective. Every flush of water holds potential. With HydroSan, I believe we can turn that potential into power, and light up lives, one household, one community, and even one border post at a time.
