In 2025, 54,378 students cleared JEE Advanced, but only 18,160 IIT seats were available. This left nearly 36,000 students without a place despite passing the tough exam.

Tough competition for limited seats

Every year, JEE Advanced creates a big gap between those who pass and those who get seats. The cut-off is set using subject marks and total marks. Then an all-India ranking is made. Even a small difference in marks can mean a big change in rank. Many students who do not get IIT seats try again next year or go to other colleges like BITS or DTU.

Students share their experiences

Swaraj Prakhar, age 17, is preparing to take JEE Advanced again. He studied up to 10 hours a day and found it hard to manage time. Another student, Harshit Panda, passed JEE Advanced but chose DTU instead of IIT. He thinks there is too much focus on IIT brand. Both students say support from family and teachers is important to handle the stress of these exams. The View From India Looking at World Affairs from the Indian perspective.
