A fire in a four-storey building in Faridabad's Green Field colony killed a family of three and their pet dog early Monday morning. The victims died from smoke inhalation while trying to reach the terrace, as the fire started on the first floor around 3am.
Family members found on staircase
Police found Sachin Kapoor, 50, his wife Rinku, 48, daughter Sujan, 13, and their dog unresponsive on the stairs between the third and fourth floors. The family lived on the second floor and tried to escape to the terrace. But the terrace door was locked. Their son Aryan, 24, survived by breaking a window and jumping to a nearby roof. Firefighters took the victims to a hospital, but they were declared dead.
Fire cause and rescue efforts
The fire likely started in an air conditioner on the first floor. Smoke filled the building quickly. Firefighters saved seven people from the fourth floor by cutting open the locked terrace gate. The Malik family on the first floor escaped and alerted others. Fire officials are checking if faulty wiring also played a role in the fire. The building owner was planning to fix damaged wiring soon.
They fell and could not get up and suffocated to death. The son, meanwhile, was able to get up to the terrace door and sneak out by breaking the window glass.
Police and fire officials are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. Follow The Rising News for more verified updates.
