The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association released a report on JNU's state. It points out problems in how the university is run, fewer SC and ST students, and issues with hiring teachers.
Report Highlights University Problems
The report says JNU has changed a lot in the last 10 years. It is now run more by the vice chancellor alone. This is not good for the university. The report also says the old way of choosing department heads has stopped. Now, some teachers are skipped when picking leaders. The report found problems with hiring new teachers too. Out of 326 open jobs, only 184 were filled. For 133 jobs, they said they could not find good people to hire.
Fewer SC/ST Students and Less Money for Research
The report shows a big drop in the number of SC and ST students. From 2021 to 2025, SC students went down from 1500 to 1143. ST students went from 741 to 545. This is less than what the rules say should be there. The report also says fewer students are doing research now. In 2016, there were 5432 research students. By 2025, this number fell to 3286. The money spent on studies has also gone down a lot. It was 38 crore rupees in 2017. Now it is only 19 crore rupees.
The university has not yet responded to these claims. Follow The Rising News for more verified updates.
