Bird Deaths at Delhi Zoo

Twelve birds died between August 24 and September 9. Nine painted storks and three black-headed ibis died in the water bird area. Seven of these birds tested positive for bird flu. Two birds are getting better. Five painted storks that fly to Delhi in winter also died near the water pond. Three of these tested positive for bird flu. Zoo Safety Measures

The zoo is taking steps to stop the spread of bird flu. They are testing for the virus every 15 days. They have sent samples to a lab in Bhopal for testing. The zoo will open only when it is safe. No other animals in the zoo are sick. The zoo wants to keep all animals, birds, and workers safe from the flu.
