On Sunday, 2,29,497 candidates took the School Service Commission (SSC) exams in West Bengal. The exams were for hiring assistant teachers for classes 11 and 12 in government-aided schools.
Exam Details and Turnout
The exams took place at 478 centers in schools. About 93% of the 2.46 lakh registered candidates showed up. This test, called the School Level Selection Test (SLST), happened after 9 years. Education Minister Bratya Basu said 13,517 candidates came from other states, mostly Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Earlier, on September 7, a similar exam for classes 9 and 10 teachers saw 91% attendance.
New Recruitment Process
This new hiring process started after 26,000 school staff lost jobs due to a court ruling. The old 2016 hiring was found to be unfair. Minister Basu said the new process is fair and clear. He asked people to think about the hopes of the candidates. The next steps are paper checking and interviews. One candidate, Chinmoy Mondal, said he hopes he wont lose his chance again due to any wrongdoing.
