Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Thursday termed the Unnao rape case as ‘shameful’ and denied any allegations of inaction by the state police.
Naik told ANI that the police had taken appropriate actions that would provide a solution and set an example for the future.
“What has happened is shameful. But to say that no action has been taken is wrong. Actions taken by the police till now will provide a solution and will also set an example for the future,” Naik said.
The Unnao rape case came to light earlier this month when a woman accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his accomplices of raping her last year.
On April 8, the rape survivor, along with her family members, attempted to commit suicide in front of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in Lucknow. Later, the survivor’s father was arrested from the spot.
The situation escalated after the survivor’s father allegedly died in police custody.
