The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 is coming up. It is the test to get into top engineering colleges in India. Students need to know how marks, percentile, and rank work for this exam.

How JEE Main scoring works

In JEE Main, you get marks out of 300. Right answers give 4 marks. Wrong answers take away 1 mark. But your raw marks are not the final score. NTA turns your marks into a percentile. This shows how you did compared to other students. Your percentile decides your All India Rank (AIR). Your AIR is very important for college admissions.

Aiming for good scores

If you want to join a top NIT or IIIT for computer science or other popular subjects, try to get 200+ marks. This can give you 99+ percentile and a rank in the top 15,000. To qualify for JEE Advanced, you usually need 90-93 percentile for general category. The cutoff is lower for reserved categories. JEE Main happens twice a year. You can take both tests. Your best score counts for the final rank. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is the gateway to some of India’s most prestigious engineering institutes, including the NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
