A new survey by the National Statistical Office shows big differences in pre-primary education across India. The survey found that rural and urban areas have very different enrollment and spending patterns for young students.

Rural-Urban Gap in Pre-Primary Education

The survey shows that most rural kids go to government schools for pre-primary classes. But in cities, more kids go to private schools. Rural families spend about 6,000 rupees per year on a child's pre-primary education. City families spend over 18,000 rupees, which is three times more. This big difference in spending creates unequal chances for kids from the start.

Concerns About Fairness in Early Education

Experts worry that the big gaps between rural and urban areas, and between government and private schools, are unfair. They say it makes rural families and poor families think unequal education is normal. This may lead to accepting unfair treatment later in life too. The survey suggests India needs to make pre-primary education more equal for all children to have a fair start. The View From India Looking at World Affairs from the Indian perspective.
