What Happened in Maddur

The trouble began around 8 pm on Sunday. A Ganesha procession from Siddhartha Nagar was going past a mosque in Ram Rahim Nagar. Some people threw stones at the procession. This led to a fight. The police had to use light force to control the crowd. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the police arrested 21 people so far. The situation is now under control, but the area is still tense.

Political Reactions to the Incident

BJP leaders visited Maddur after the clashes. They accused the Congress government of favoring minorities. JDS MP H.D. Kumaraswamy asked people to stay peaceful. He said the government should arrest those who threw stones. The Congress government said they are working to keep peace. They sent more police to Mandya and banned large gatherings until Wednesday. The incident has raised concerns about growing communal tensions in Mandya district.
