Why Malik was arrested
The police said Malik was involved in many cases since 2014. They said his actions were causing problems for law and order. The District Magistrate wrote to the J&K assembly Speaker saying Malik was a threat to peace. Malik was taken to District Jail Bhaderwah in Jammu. The Public Safety Act lets police hold people for up to two years without a trial.
Leaders speak against arrest
Many leaders in J&K said the arrest was wrong. Omar Abdullah said Malik is not a threat to public safety. Arvind Kejriwal said asking for a hospital is not a big crime. Other leaders like Waheed Para and Sajad Lone also spoke against the arrest. They said it was not good for democracy to arrest an elected leader like this.
