New Habitat Created at Humber Estuary for Flood Protection

The Environment Agency and Associated British Ports have finished a big project at Humber Estuary in Yorkshire. They made a new 250-hectare area of habitat to help protect against floods and allow port growth.

The Environment Agency and Associated British Ports have finished a big project at Humber Estuary in Yorkshire. They made a new 250-hectare area of habitat to help protect against floods and allow port growth.

Project Helps People and Nature

The new habitat replaces important areas lost due to flood protection work and port building in other parts of the estuary. This project will help keep more than 100,000 people safe from floods in places like Hull, Hessle, South Ferriby and Stallingborough. The Environment Agency worked with Associated British Ports and many other groups to make this happen. A company called JBA Bentleys designed and built the project. This work is part of the governments plan to help the economy grow. By protecting important buildings and areas from floods, more companies will want to invest here.
