Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil ended his hunger strike at Mumbai's Azad Maidan on Tuesday. The Maharashtra government agreed to accept six out of his eight main demands for Maratha reservation.
Government Accepts Key Demands
The government agreed to give Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas after checking family records. This will help Marathas get reservation under the OBC category. The government will also take back cases against Maratha youth by the end of September. They will give money to families of people who died during quota protests. The government needs more time to decide on some other demands.
Celebrations and Next Steps
Jarange-Patil's supporters celebrated the agreement by throwing colored powder in the air. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he was happy a solution was found. The government will now work on giving Kunbi certificates to eligible Marathas. This process will start in the Marathwada region.
