What the Supreme Court Ruled

The Supreme Court said teachers from Classes 1-8 in non-minority schools must pass TET in two years. If they fail, they will have to leave their jobs. This rule is for teachers with more than 5 years left before retirement. The court said this will improve teaching quality. Why Tamil Nadu Wants a Review

Tamil Nadu says 3,90,458 of its 4,49,850 teachers do not have TET qualification. The state fears many classrooms will be left without teachers if the ruling is followed. It says the judgment goes against childrens right to free education. Tamil Nadu wants other ways to improve teaching, like training courses.
