The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is facing questions about its methods. Experts say there are problems with how data is collected and used in the rankings. This was discussed in a webinar hosted by The Hindu.

Problems with NIRF Rankings

The NIRF was started by the government to rank Indian colleges and universities. It was meant to be better than global rankings for Indian schools. But now people are worried about how it works. The Education Minister has asked about the peer perception part of the rankings. Some say schools can cheat by giving wrong information. NIRF has started punishing schools for bad research, but many think this is not enough.

Experts Share Their Views

In the webinar, experts talked about the NIRF problems. Prof. Rao said NIRF has become important for students and the government. But Prof. Yufuar said the rankings make schools act in bad ways to get good scores. Mr. Agrawal said NIRF makes schools focus too much on research and not enough on teaching. The experts think NIRF should be more clear about how it works and should look at more things like how much teachers are paid.

As soon as you attach numbers, people will start gaming the system.

The government needs to improve NIRF by listening to feedback from students and teachers. Follow The Rising News for more verified updates.
