The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) released a report on October 9, 2025. The report talks about big problems in how the university is run and fewer SC and ST students joining JNU.
Problems in University Management
The report says JNU has changed a lot in the last 10 years. It says the university now works in a way that gives too much power to the Vice Chancellor. The report also says that the old way of choosing department heads and deans has stopped. Now, these jobs are given out in a way that is not fair to all professors.
Fewer SC ST Students and Less Money for Studies
The report shows that fewer SC and ST students are joining JNU. From 2021 to 2025, the number of SC students went down from 1,500 to 1,143. ST students went down from 741 to 545. This is less than what the rules say. The report also says that JNU is spending less money on studies. In 2017, it spent 38.37 crore rupees. But in 2025, it only spent 19.29 crore rupees. From being a public institution in which the quest for knowledge thrives, the university has been steadily pushed in the direction of being reduced to being an expression of the vice chancellors persona.
