India's education system is not helping students get jobs. Over 10 million students graduate each year, but less than half are ready for work. This is because schools focus on exams, not job skills.
Big gap between degrees and jobs
Many young people think getting a degree will lead to a job. But only about 8 out of 100 graduates find work in their field of study. Most end up in unrelated jobs or without work. This is not because students are not smart. It is because schools do not teach what companies need. In fields like engineering, 80 out of 100 graduates are not fit for core jobs.
Lack of real-world experience
Students do not get enough hands-on work experience. This is worse in small towns. They finish school without knowing how to work in a real job. Schools care more about how many students pass exams than how many get jobs. They do not help students connect with companies or learn job skills. Students have to find jobs on their own after finishing school. The View From India Looking at World Affairs from the Indian perspective.
