The Sarva Jatiye Kandela Khap Panchayat in Jind, Haryana has supported RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's call for Indian couples to have three children. The khap also backed Bhagwat's views on raising the retirement age at a meeting held on September 4 in Kandela village.

Khap warns against single-child families

The khap said having only one child is risky. If the child dies young, parents lose support and feel sad forever. They worry India will have too many old people and not enough young workers to care for families. The khap wants couples to have three or at least two children. This matches what Bhagwat said at a recent RSS event in Delhi about India's falling birth rate.

Support for flexible retirement age

The khap also agreed with Bhagwat that people should not have to retire at a fixed age. Tekram Kandela, the khap's leader, said if someone can work well at 80 or 90, they should be allowed to. The khap also said live-in relationships should not be allowed. They want marriages to happen only with parents' approval. This shows the khap's old-fashioned views.
