The Goa government has cancelled plans to build an IIT campus in Codar village. Industries Minister Subhash Shirodkar announced this decision on Sunday after talking with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Reasons for Cancellation

The plan was stopped because people in Codar village did not want it. Many farmers were worried the project would harm nature and their jobs. The government said they do not want to force the project on the villagers. Now, IIT-Goa will stay at its current place in Farmagudi, Ponda. But this place is small and not very good for the institute.

Search for New Location

The state government now has to find a new place for the IIT campus. Minister Shirodkar said that not allowing such projects can slow down Goas growth. He thinks some people with their own interests are making others oppose good projects. The minister also said the IIT campus would have helped Codar village grow, but it would not have harmed farmers land or jobs.
