Bhubaneswar, 4 Oct 2025
Hundreds of aspirants protested in Bhubaneswar on Friday after the police sub-inspector exam was postponed again. The Combined Police Service Examination, 2024, was delayed due to the arrest of 117 people in Berhampur, including 114 aspirants who allegedly paid money to a job racket.
Exam Postponement and Arrests
The exam was first set for March, then moved to October 5 and 6, before being delayed again. Police caught 114 aspirants and 3 brokers on their way to a special coaching center in Andhra Pradesh. The aspirants had reportedly paid 10 lakh rupees each to a group promising them jobs. In total, 1.53 lakh people applied for 933 police sub-inspector posts.
Protests and Political Reactions
Aspirants gathered near the State Library, blaming the Odisha Police Recruitment Board for negligence. They said the board allowed cheating to happen. Opposition parties Congress and BJD accused the BJP government of running a big job scam. BJD shared photos of state ministers with a person they say was in charge of the exam. They want the CBI to look into the matter. The BJP denied all claims, saying they stopped the exam to be fair.
Had that been a case, why did the state government postpone the examination on its own after getting information of sabotage?
