The Crime Branch of Odisha Police arrested a key member of a syndicate involved in the sub-inspector recruitment exam scam. The arrest happened on Saturday as opposition parties called for a CBI probe or judicial inquiry into the matter.

Details of the Arrest and Investigation

The police caught Biswaranjan Behera, age 29, from Cuttack district. He took original certificates and blank cheques from exam candidates. In return, he promised to give them question papers. The police think this shows a big plan to cheat. Now, a total of 118 people are in jail for this scam. The police are still looking for the main person behind this cheating plan.

Exam Postponement and Public Reaction

The written test for sub-inspector jobs was supposed to happen on October 5-6. But it was stopped after police caught 117 people near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border on September 30. These people were going for special coaching before the exam. Now, many job seekers are angry. They want the hiring process to be fair. On Saturday, hundreds of them protested in front of a library in Bhubaneswar. Noting that an organised syndicate was operating to subvert the sub-inspector (SI) recruitment examination, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police on Saturday arrested a key member of the racket as the opposition parties intensified their demand for a CBI probe or a judicial inquiry into the scam….

Preliminary probe revealed that an organised criminal syndicate is operating to subvert the entire examination process by adopting unfair means for monetary gain.
