The Tamil Nadu School Education Department will start RTE admissions on October 9. This comes after the Union government released Rs 538.39 crore for RTE entitlements under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

How RTE Admissions Will Work This Year

Schools will reopen on October 6 after holidays. Admissions will happen for kids already in entry classes like LKG and Class 1. School heads will fill forms after getting parents permission. Admissions will be online through the RTE portal. Schools have 10 days to regularize eligible students already admitted under RTE. Any fees collected must be given back in 7 working days.

Why RTE Admissions Were Delayed

RTE admissions usually start in April. But the Centre had not given funds under Samagra Shiksha. So Tamil Nadu could not begin admissions. The state went to court about this. After notices from courts, the Centre released the money. This includes Rs 362 crore for 2024-25 and Rs 175.59 crore for 2025-26. Another Rs 175.59 crore will come later for 2025-26.
