The Supreme Court let some candidates take the Chhattisgarh Judicial Service Exam on September 21. The court told the state exam board to give admit cards to people who meet all rules except being enrolled as lawyers.

Court Gives Special Permission

The judges said candidates can take the test for now. But this does not mean they will get the job. The court said the exam board should not ask for 3 years of lawyer work. This is because the exam notice came before a new court rule in May. The new rule says people need 3 years of lawyer work to take judge tests.

Why Some Candidates Had Problems

Some people like government lawyers did not get admit cards. This is because they had to stop being regular lawyers when they got government jobs. The exam rules said people must be enrolled as lawyers on the day of the job notice. But government lawyers cannot be enrolled as regular lawyers. So they went to court to ask for help. New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Friday permitted few candidates to provisionally appear in the Chhattisgarh Judicial Service Examination on September 21. A bench comprising Chief justice B R Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and N V Anjaria directed the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission to allow them to appear provisionally in the preliminary examination meant for entry level judicial services. As an interim order, we direct that the CGPSC shall permit such of the petitioners who are possessing the requisite qualification except the one provided under clause, i.e., enrolled as an advocate under the Advocates Act 1961.
