West Bengal SSC Exam: 2.29 Lakh Candidates Appear for Teacher Jobs

On Sunday, 2,29,497 candidates took the School Service Commission (SSC) exam in West Bengal. The test was for assistant teacher jobs in classes 11 and 12 in government-aided schools. This was about 93% of the total 2.46 lakh people who signed up.

Exam Details and Turnout

The School Level Selection Test (SLST) happened after nine years. It took place in 478 centers in schools. Education Minister Bratya Basu said 13,517 candidates came from other states. Most were from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Earlier, on September 7, another exam for classes 9 and 10 teachers saw 91% turnout. In that test, 31,362 candidates were from outside Bengal.

New Recruitment Process

This new hiring process started after 26,000 school staff lost jobs. The Supreme Court had said the 2016 hiring was not fair. Minister Basu thanked the West Bengal School Service Commission for being clear in the process. He said they focused on fair testing and keeping answer sheets safe. The minister asked opposition members to think about the hopes of candidates. In all, 2,29,497 candidates appeared for the School Service Commission (SSC) examinations on Sunday for the recruitment of assistant teachers in classes 11 and 12 in West Bengal government-aided schools, officials said. We had qualified in the 2016 exams and still lost jobs due to the corruption by a section of those in the establishment. Today again my exams went off well. I hope that I will not be a victim of the circumstances again for the fault of the commission.
