On September 11, 2025, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh flagged off Samudra Pradakshina, a historic all-women sailing expedition, from Mumbai. Ten women officers from the Indian Armed Forces will sail around the world on the Indian Army Sailing Vessel Triveni for nine months.
Expedition Details and Route
The team will sail for 26,000 nautical miles on an easterly route. They will cross the Equator twice and go around three big capes – Leeuwin, Horn, and Good Hope. The ship will sail through all major oceans, including some very dangerous waters. The team will stop at four foreign ports before coming back to Mumbai in May 2026. Importance of the Expedition
Raksha Mantri called this trip a symbol of women power and unity among the three armed forces. He said it also shows India's ability to make its own ships. The boat, IASV Triveni, was built in Puducherry. The team trained for three years to get ready for this big trip. They did smaller trips first and then moved to bigger challenges. Their last practice trip was from Mumbai to Seychelles and back.
During the expedition, our officers may face numerous challenges, but their flame of determination will pierce through the darkness.
