Assam wrapped up their journey at the North East Games in Nagaland on March 23, clinching the third spot. The team shone brightly, bagging a total of 139 medals, which includes 43 golds and 44 silvers. Leading the medal tally was Manipur with 52 golds among its 130 medals, while the host state, Nagaland, secured the second position with 134 medals, including 48 golds.

The boxing team from Assam was particularly impressive, grabbing four gold, five silver, and six bronze medals. Their wrestlers also made waves, with Pritima Khaklary winning a silver in the 53kg category. Domoni Uzir and Anisha Basumutary each took home a bronze in the 55kg and 59kg categories, respectively. The wrestling squad finished with a commendable two silver and four bronze medals.

Assam’s women’s basketball team also made headlines by securing a bronze medal, showcasing their teamwork and spirit. The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) lauded the athletes’ performances, noting that 90 percent of the team members were new faces. According to Lakhya Konwar, the AOA general secretary, this strategy aimed to nurture future champions, and the young athletes lived up to expectations.
